Yucca Valley isn't the only road trip-worthy desert destination. For your next stylish staycation, consider heading about two hours west to Santa Barbara County's own high desert, where 1950s-built motel Cuyama Buckhorn has unveiled even more relaxation-inducing spots to enjoy on its picturesque property.

Nestled just north of Los Padres National Forest in the historic town of Cuyama, the chic, nearly-two-acre retreat revealed its renovated pool deck area, which features a heated 60-by-20-foot pool with fountains, a roomy jacuzzi, and rustic-modern lounge chairs and umbrellas. If you're not ready for a soak, there's a barrel-style sauna boasting breathtaking views of the Caliente Mountains.

There are also new dining areas, an outdoor theater and screening area with a 15-by-30-foot lawn, revitalized lounge spaces with a midcentury modern fireplace and vintage furnishings, open-air game areas (like the pool table and pro-grade bocce ball court), and a cocktail bar with a 40-foot dining table.

Guests can also enjoy the greenery-filled Garden dining area, which features a greenhouse, picnic tables, a garden shop, sculptures, and planter beds filled with herbs and vegetables used by the hotel's farm-to-table restaurant.

The cowboy-cool inn also refreshed its indoor lobby area, where visitors can enjoy a library wall of books and activities, the restored original fireplace, and vintage seating. Over in the Buckhorn Market, you'll find locally-made wine, produce, gourmet pantry staples, freshly-baked bread, olive oil, and more scrumptious sundries.

Built in 1952, the historic roadside motel was purchased and renovated in 2018 by L.A. interior designers Ferial Sadeghian and Jeff Vance. The owners of West Hollywood-based design firm, iDGroup, decorated the property with rustic-modern and vintage decor, debuted a coffee shop and restaurant (the menus offer food featuring locally-sourced ingredients), and added a regular schedule of programming and events to highlight local makers, ranchers, farmers, and organizations.

The hotel also teamed with artist and designer Kim Sutherland on Rural: Issue 2, a compilation of profiles on Cuyama's most influential community members.
