There are few LA boutiques that reach the status of fashion institution — and Mohawk General Store in Silver Lake is one of them. The East LA lifestyle shop is known for its curated selection of cult-favorite designers and Japanese-inspired approach to dressing, and Westsiders no longer need to cross the 405 to stock their wardrobes with names like Dries Van Noten, Ann Demeulemeester, and Isabel Marant all in one place with the opening of Mohawk WEST.
Husband-and-wife shopkeeps Kevin and Bo Carney's fourth LA outpost opened at the end of August on Main Street, just on the border of Venice and Santa Monica. Located next door to Free People and not far from minimalist home goods fave MUJI, the 2,000-square-foot space is accompanied by a 2,500-square-foot outdoor desert garden — designed by L.A. landscaping firm Terremoto — that'll host a slew of cool events, like Mohawk's upcoming book launch and a screening of the new Dries Van Noten documentary, to name a few.
In addition to stocking womenswear, menswear, footwear, and accessories from the aforementioned respected designers, the shop also offers Mohawk's in-house line SMOCK alongside luxe labels like Jacquemus, Lemaire, Black Crane, Comme des Garçons, and many more.
For those that need some mid-retail therapy fresh air, Mohawk WEST's sunny outdoor space will feature a month-long installation from Tokyo-based wood and terra cotta sculptor Ryosuke Yazake. The eight-piece collection kicks off the boutique's new program to highlight global artists and designers; swing by the store through the end of September to catch the stunning works while you shop.
