In addition to beauty, the Japanese seem to be ahead of the curve when it comes to organizing. Speaking of which, KonMari devotees in need of tidying up their desks will want to head over to ROW DTLA, where cult-cool lifestyle brand HIGHTIDE has opened its first U.S. outpost.
Known for its chic planners, paper goods, and office supplies, the Fukuoka-bred retailer modeled the space after a traditional Japanese stationery store. Shoppers will find HIGHTIDE's own line of journals, retro writing utensils, travel organizers, home goods, and more alongside desk essentials from Penco and Dux, Field Notes notebooks, Nahe cases, toys, and candy.
Owner Yuichi Munehiro explains that he chose ROW DTLA for the brand's first Stateside shop because of the development's history as a wholesale complex and its stellar tenant lineup. "There are many local vendors, not only for the sale of goods and services, but also the transmission of culture and that had a strong personal appeal for me," he says in a release. "We look forward to the possibility of working with other ROW tenants and hope, with the infinite possibility of pen and paper, to contribute to the DTLA community."
The company also plans on hosting art exhibitions and events featuring Japanese craft artists. HIGHTIDE joins a handful of Japanese brands at the Arts District lifestyle center, including soon-to-open Kinto (known for its coffee and tea accessories and tabletop goods), tokyobike, bento box resto Hayato, and Japanese fried chicken eatery Pikunico (which is set to open soon, too).
Take a peek inside the charming shop and scroll through the gallery above and see below for the hours and location.
HIGHTIDE is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am to 7pm; (213) 935-8135.
