Westfield Topanga will soon refuse to be referred to as a mere mall. Three years after its stylish open-air Village joined the neighborhood, the San Fernando Valley shopping center will undergo a $70 million makeover as part of its interior modernization plans.

Per Westfield, the 1.7-million-square-foot Canoga Park mall's renovations will kick off this fall and wrap up in 2019. Upgrades will include "a sleek and modern look" via dark walnut paneling and new flooring, long-term art exhibits featuring work from influential local artists, a more efficient and sustainable lighting system, enhanced security technology, and improvements to family lounges and bathrooms.

Of course, the facelift will also include directory additions: So far, Montblanc is confirmed to be among the brands slated to open at the center; current luxury brands and retailers include Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Burberry, Salvatore Ferragamo, Tiffany & Co., and more alongside Target, Macy's, and many others. Vice president and general manager Molly Unger adds that there will be "even more exciting enhancements still to come in the future, including a new entertainment and dining district that will bring a whole new nighttime vibe to the Topanga experience."

Westfield was acquired by Unibail-Rodamco, Europe's largest commercial real estate company, in June as part of a multi-billion-dollar deal. Westfield Topanga also plans on turn its currently out-of-commission 34-acre Promenade property into a "walkable, friendly downtown community." The proposed Promenade 2035 will cost $1.5 billion and will become "a combination of new residences, offices, entertainment, dining, hotel, and shopping options built in phases over time."

Westfield Topanga and The Village are home to a mix of over 350 fashion and fitness retailers, beauty and skincare studios, and restaurants. The indoor center still be shoppable during construction, most of which will be done after business hours.

Stay tuned for more updates.
