Read more: Inside Dover Street Market's Luxury Fashion and Streetwear Wonderland in DTLA
After tracking and stalking Dover Street Market's under-construction digs in DTLA, we now have an exact opening date for the avant-garde fashion wonderland's first Los Angeles outpost. Per DSMLA's Instagram post yesterday, the massive multi-brand concept store is set to arrive in Downtown Saturday, November 3.
Founded by Comme des Garçons designer Rei Kawakubo, the international style mecca is set to arrive in the Arts District at Imperial and 6th Streets. The retailer tells us that the space will span a total of 19,500 square feet across a single floor and will "parallel other DSM locations through their unified governing theme of 'Beautiful Chaos'." Like the cool retailer's other outposts (located in London, New York, Beijing, Singapore, and Ginza), the store will stock womenswear, menswear, and jewelry from emerging and established designers. In addition to Kawakubo's CDG and Play line, expect inventory to include cult-cool labels Vetements, Gosha Rubchinksiy, and Junya Watanabe; and skate brands Stüssy and Palace alongside luxury European fashion houses like Gucci and Prada, to name a few.
In an interview with Wall Street Journal's WSJ. magazine, co-founder Adrian Joffe (who's also married to Kawakubo) revealed that the anti-department store's design would feature a massive dividing wall intersected by "modern huts" made of corrugated metal because "Rei likes for the energy to flow." The cult favorite retailer will also include the first West Coast outpost of Rose Bakery, which was founded by Parisian-bred chef Rose Carrarini and her husband Jean Charles in 2002.
