Unless you're a serious interior design devotee, wall paint and paper are hardly things to hyperventilate over — but Farrow & Ball's new LA showroom might just change that. The U.K.-based company has relocated its colorful store to La Cienega Boulevard, and it's the only Stateside space where you can see the brand's complete color palette in every finish.
Designed by Isaac Resnikoff and Sandy Yum of LA's own Project Room (they're responsible for brunch mainstay SQIRL's modern interiors and the cool mirrored benches at MOCA), the 2,600-square-foot space features modern art-like totem sculptures that showcase all 132 of F&B's hues, which boast colorfully cheeky names like Dead Salmon, Charlotte's Locks, Sulking Room Pink, and Elephant's Breath, to name just a few. Every paint can be mixed for a variety of surfaces, from your basic indoor walls and floors to interior or exterior wood, metal, and concrete. (Got an old home? There's a special formula for antique properties, too.)
The shop was previously on Melrose Avenue and is now located in For Love & Lemons' former pink pop-up in the La Cienega Design Quarter, where it also offers the British brand's full collection of solid and printastic wallpapers. Of course, shoppers can also take home samples of paint and papers to test 'em out in their own spaces.
There's also an art class-like display system that literally gives customers a hands-on way to see paints and finishes: A magnetic wall allows customers to rearrange molding and other elements to get a big-picture view of color schemes.
The double-decker store also houses a second-floor living room-style lounge and materials library that home designers will find particularly useful. In true California al fresco spirit, the upper level features a landscaped outdoor patio that'll play host to dinner parties and other events for LA's design community.
Other unique design touches include custom wood-block posters by LA artist Michael Dopp; outside, passersby will also notice the vertical stripes painted on the store's exterior, which change colors as you walk or drive past. Early next year, the store will launch a billboard program to show off the works of local artists and creatives.
The La Cienega store marks Farrow & Ball's third LA area location and 15th North America showroom. Take a peek inside the museum-esque space in the gallery above, and peep below for the hours and address.
