Stylish spectacle wearers have yet another cool source for fashionable frames, this time from heritage NYC brand Moscot. Beloved by the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Tom Hanks, Lupita Nyong'o and even the boys of BTS, to name just a few, the luxury eyewear label, has opened its first store outside of the Big Apple on our very own Melrose Avenue, which is open as of today — and it's pretty hard to miss, given that the corner boutique is painted in an eye-catching sunny yellow.
Moscot has moved into the store previously occupied by Assembly (which relocated a few blocks west), where it has transformed the formerly minimalist space into a nostalgic boutique inspired by the living room Moscot family matriarch Great Grandma Sylvia (you'll get to take home her vibes via a reusable tote bag featuring her portrait). The 1,800-square-foot shop is decked out with N.Y.-made tin ceiling tiles, "tchotchkes, vintage furniture, and artifacts from the family archives," as well as a back room speakeasy and a gallery wall showcases the 105-year-old family-owned brand's roots, too.
Expect to find the full collection of classic and modern optical frames and sunglasses made from Italian acetate, including retro best-sellers like iconic Lemtosh (exclusively at Moscot Melrose in a new Straw colorway and a special "L.A." temple engraving, with only 100 frames available), the Miltzen, and the Zolman and more styles in array of colors from the Originals line ($280 and up).
Also on offer are vintage-inspired silhouettes from the brand's Spirit range ($300 and up), such as the cat-eye Tess, the Bjorn aviator, and popular square shapes like the Arthur and Noah, to name few. You can also pick up accessories like clip-ons ($95), extra cases, eyeglass cleaning kits, and more.
In a statement, creative director and fifth-generation Moscot family member Zack Moscot reveals that L.A.'s very own Melrose Trading Post (located just three blocks west of the brand's shop) "reminds me of our family's humble beginnings when my great-great-Grandfather, Hyman Moscot, sold ready-made glasses off a pushcart in the early 1900s when Orchard Street was full of pushcart vendors selling knick-knacks, housewares, and food."
CEO Dr. Harvey Moscot (a.k.a. Zack's dad), adds that the brand has always had strong Hollywood connections: "Many of my former patients and long-time customers of Moscot started their careers while living in the Lower East Side and eventually moved out west!"
The shop marks the brand's 10th store worldwide; it's also got locations in Rome, Tokyo, London, Seoul, and Paris in addition to four in its native New York.
