Santa Monica has scored a new indoor nightlife oasis that's serving tiki libations and moody tropical vibes. From Pacific Coast Hospitality comes the newly-landed cocktail bar Canary, a '60s-style midnight escape that pays homage to Frank Sinatra and the Rack Pack — and it's complete with a hidden private room and a paparazzi-proof door hidden behind a rolling bookcase so VIP guests can dip in and out quietly.
The bar is front and center in the open-concept room, which also features a suspended indoor swing to create quite the photo opp. Plants are insulated in see-through glass panels lit up by saturated hues of pink and blue as greenery hangs from the ceiling and abound in bird cages. Contrasting sandy nude tones cover cushion seats, accents of green and yellow runs throughout the space, including feel-good banana leaf wallpaper in the restrooms.
Equipped with its own sound system and a top-shelf bar with premium offerings, the stylish destination offers drinks starting from happy hour and a state-of-the-art stage that's ready for live entertainment, be it a DJ or cabaret. Jazz nights are set to take place every Sunday starting Dec. 8 and musicians will be on rotation throughout the weekends.
Helmed by mixologist Devon Espinosa, the bar menu is nothing short of flavorful and sweetly unpredictable. The "Angry Bird" is served in a canary bird-shaped collins glass, while "Off White" and "New Fashioned" are a few of Espinosa's specialties infused with his cocktail expertise from Houston Brothers properties and Pour Vous.
Plus, some of the tastiest tacos in town, Tacos 1986, will debut as a pop-up on Thursday nights to satisfy food cravings. More culinary partnerships are in the works and catering options are available for private buyouts.
