Lest you find yourself without wheels the next time CicLAvia rolls around, there's another cool shop that's got your back (rather, your seat and feet). After debuting in Pittsburgh two years ago, urban cycling shop Banker Supply Co. has opened its first west coast outpost in Echo Park.
Founded by cycling entrepreneur (and new Angeleno!) Nick Drombosky, the 2,400-square-foot lifestyle boutique offers bicycles, gear, stylish apparel, accessories, and more for the design-minded urban cyclist. Find two-wheelers by respected brands like State Bicycle Co., Coast Cycles, and Brooklyn Bicycle Co.; fashionable commuter clothing by Levi's, Parker Dusseau, and LA's Swrve; bags by SF-based Mission Workshop; lights by Knog; and much more. Bikers can also swing through for tune-ups and repairs.
"The cycling community in Los Angeles is maybe the most varied in the country," Drombosky explains. Noting that 70 percent of Banker Supply Co.'s sales are made by women, "[LA is] much different than the mostly middle-aged, middle-class, white male-dominated cycling communities you will find in many cities in the U.S."
Banker Supply Co. is open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 7pm (with the exception of Tuesday, when it is closed) and Sunday from 11am to 6pm; hours are subject to change.
