MUJI is thinking big for its next LA outpost — but don't think the Japanese home goods retailer will break its tradition of keeping minimalist spaces. The brand is set to open its largest West Coast store on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica this September.
Known for its sleek line of home furnishings, storage, textiles, kitchenware, and apparel, the retailer is taking over Abercrombie & Fitch's former space between Skechers and Madewell. MUJI tells us the 10,494-square-foot, two-story store will house an exclusive custom embroidery service (which will feature over 300 designs to choose from) and will be the only U.S. store to stock the brand's ReMUJI line, which transforms "previously unsellable garments" into re-dyed upcycled clothing.
That's not all: As Women's Wear Daily notes, there's a chance that MUJI will bring its hotel concept to the West Coast. The retailer opened its first vacay spot in Shenzhen, China in January of this year, followed by a location in Beijing.
Once open, MUJI's "simplistic" lifestyle mecca at the popular tourist shopping spot will be its second Westside shop; the retailer opened on low-key Main Street — just a couple miles away from Third Street Promenade — four years ago.
Stay tuned for more!
