Bucket Bags, Free Valet, More: What to Expect at Mansur Gavriel's First LA Sample Sale

If Mansur Gavriel's first LA sample sale is any indication, the minimalist-cool label really gets us. (Spoiler: There's free valet!) We stopped by the brand's friends and family preview yesterday and scored a sneak peek at the goods — and we're happy to report that there's a bounty of bucket bags and more.

The four-day blowout kicks off today in West Hollywood, and fans of designer duo Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel can expect 40 to 70% off their sleek carryalls in every silhouette and shade, 75% off their ready-to-wear collection, and shoes in all sizes for $150 per pair. Bonus: Should you get parched, there'll be free herbal and caffeinated teas served at the outside patio in the back.

When we stopped by the sale preview yesterday shortly before the opening time of 2pm, we were pretty surprised to find only a few fellow shoppers lined up about 10 minutes before doors opened. We also had a pretty smooth retail therapy experience: Unlike other sample sales we've attended, there was no fight-or-flight elbowing, no grabbing, and no frenzied rush to get all of the things. However, this may not be the case for Thursday when doors open to the public, so expect to find early birds lining up out in front.

Here, we've assembled a quick cheat sheet for what to expect — read on below and let us know how it went and what you scored in the comments. Can't make it to the deal-happy event IRL? When: Thursday, August 23 through Saturday, August 25 (8am to 8pm) and Sunday, August 26 (10am to 6pm)

Where: 631 North Robertson Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90069 (3.1 Phillip Lim's former boutique)

Parking: Praise the sale gods, there's free valet specifically for Mansur Gavriel sample sale shoppers — just pull up to the front and be sure to get your ticket validated. If for whatever reason valet is at capacity, note that there are public parking lots at the VCA Miller-Robertson Animal Hospital (located at the corner of Robertson and Melrose; it's $1 for the first three hours and $2 per hour thereafter) and around the corner on the north side of Melrose Avenue (two-hour max).

Inventory: First things first, we're told that merchandise will be restocked throughout the sale. On that note, expect to find essentially every MG bag style in a variety of sizes (like mini mini, mini, regular, large), colors, and materials, including soon-to-be discontinued items. Yes, that means there will be the brand's signature bucket bag (we even spotted adorable super tiny versions) alongside Sun, Lady, Folded, and Elegant styles; totes; backpacks; crossbodies; Moon and Volume clutches; Posternak and Metropolitan bags, travel bags; laptop cases and sleeves; wallets; and more.

As far as footwear, expect everything to be organized by size (36 to 41.5). We spotted mostly open-toed shoes like crossover sandals, flat and 40MM mules, double strap sandals, and rectangular slides.

Over in the womenswear section (located in the corner immediately to the left when you enter), there are sweaters, silk sleeveless tops, pleated sleeveless dresses, chiffon short sleeved dresses, silk elastic pants, linen A-line trenches, and more in various sizes.

Pricing and Discounts: As seen above, there will be signs posted throughout with the discounts off the original prices for bags of different materials, and staff will be on hand to help do the math on items without prices on the tags. Vegetable tanned leather will be 40% off; tumble, calf, and suede will be 50% off; and fabric and patent leather will be 70% off.

This means you can expect a raw leather mini mini bucket bag (no interior color) for $207, a mini calf leather bucket bag (with interior color) starting at $297, and a regular leather bucket bag for $357. Regular Lady bags will be about $537, mini backpacks start at $375, large totes start at $321, regular Sun bags start at $507, clutches will be $100 to $175, laptop cases will be $50, and card holders will be $75.

Since fabric and patent leather styles offer the steepest markdowns, expect to score items like the checkered folded bag for $193.50 (originally $645), a suede mini backpack for $337.50 (originally $675), and a suede bucket bag for $297.50 (originally $595), to name just a few finds.

Try-ons: There will be dressing rooms on site; we also suggest wearing flats or other footwear that's easy to slip on and off if you plan on trying on footwear.

Sale rules: We were told that there was a 10-item maximum (take note, stylish scalpers). There are no rules against bringing strollers (go ahead, bring your mini-me) or wearing your own Mansur Gavriel handbag into the sale.

Other tips: While there's no telling what the crowds will be like, it's best to expect a line in the morning along with a wave of lunchtime and post-work shoppers around noon and after 5pm.
