MUJI's Largest West Coast Store Brings Simple Japanese Lifestyle Staples to Third Street Promenade

Third Street Promenade's resident cologne over-sprayer has been replaced by fresh home fragrances and simple lifestyle staples. Sleek Japanese lifestyle brand MUJI has taken over Abercrombie & Fitch's former space on Third Street Promenade for its largest West Coast outpost, which officially opened today.

Spanning nearly 10,500 square feet, the two-story shop (located not far from the company's first Santa Monica store on Main Street, which will remain open) stocks the brand's full collection of essentials for every aspect of life, like sleek wardrobe basics, kitchenware, cleaning products, home storage, furnishings, skincare, stationery, suitcases and travel accessories, essential oils, and more items "designed to highlight modesty, accessibility, and reduced waste."

MUJI USA president Toru Tsunoda explains in a statement that the brand has "found a natural home in California, where MUJI's values of simple, well-made, and accessible products are so embraced by the broader public."

As previously mentioned, the store houses a bespoke embroidery station that'll stitch up over 300 different designs to shoppers' clothing and textiles; the service was previously only available in the U.S. at MUJI's New York flagship. The minimalist lifestyle mecca also exclusively stocks the brand's upcycled Re-MUJI collection, which is comprised of archived pieces that are re-dyed in Japanese indigo to create one-of-a-kind items.

The store is MUJI's seventh California location and fourth in the LA area; there are also shops in Hollywood and Westfield Santa Anita in Arcadia.
