One of the West Valley's coolest new(ish) shopping haunt continues to shine. In addition to scoring DSTLD's pop-up, Woodland Hills' revitalized Valley Country Market (which swapped "Mart" for "Market," FYI) has welcomed a slew of new stores, including chic children's boutique Merci Milo and home goods shop Maude Woods.
It's the second LA outpost for Merci Milo, which began as an online shop two years ago and opened its first brick-and-mortar space inside a former horse carriage stable in Highland Park last year. Inspired by the whimsical toy stores in Paris, the 1,093-square-foot store stocks handmade goods, accessories, and more from over 150 different brands from across the globe, including France's Vilac and Moulin Roty, Germany's Ostheimer Toys, the U.K.'s Meri Meri, and Denmark's Maileg, to name a few. Stylish tots will also find clothing from Misha & Puff, Apolina Kids, Nico Nico, and Tambere.
The charming retailer was founded by stylish LA mama and jewelry designer Caroline Rodrigues and her husband, Jason, who named the shop after their daughter. "We decided to expand because we believe in Valley Country Market, but also the community in the Valley and Topanga need a shop like ours — a neighborhood toy shop they can bring their children to for special gifts as a treat," Caroline tells us.
Vintage and contemporary home furnishings shop Maude Woods also opened its second LA location at the Valley shopping hangout. Founder Carrie Davich opened her first boutique in Old Town Pasadena nearly 10 years ago and débuted the Woodland Hills outpost in October. Named after Davich's artist great-grandmother, the 1,300-square-foot space houses one-of-a-kind treasures like antique seating from Europe reupholstered with kilims and other globally-sourced fabrics, handmade soy candles, kitchenware, and more.
Maude Woods and Merci Milo aren't the only directory upgrades at Valley Country Market. Since we last checked in with the former Woodland Hills Village, Lodge Bread Co.'s second LA restaurant has also opened, while Blue Bottle and LA sweets maker Valerie Confections are also set to open soon.
Existing tenants Claudio Marino Hair Design and Mister Cuts Barbershop are still trimming tresses, too, while beauty supply retailer Cosmoprof is also still serving industry pros at its VCM location.
