Alfred wants to be a familiar name in every Los Angeles nabe. The Melrose Place-born, fashion-faved coffee and tea shop opened its 12th SoCal outpost at stylish Palisades Village this month, marking its first-ever location inside a retail development. (In addition to doors in West Hollywood, Brentwood, Studio City, Silver Lake, and K-Town, it's also got an outpost in Texas, while its sister café, Alfred Tea Room, has three shops in Japan.)
The 'grammable java shop opened July 1 next door to Edo Little Bites; its fashionable neighbors include A.L.C., Anine Bing, Towne by Elyse Walker, and the newly-opened Veronica Beard, to name just a few. "Generally, we try to avoid opening in such centers," Alfred founder Joshua Zad tells Uncover L.A. "But Palisades Village is such an incredible opportunity for us and the way that this development seamlessly integrated itself both visually and socially into the fabric of the Palisades community made it impossible to pass up."
The "tiny but mighty" 700-square-foot space features "amoeba-like" chandeliers, reclaimed wood floors, red oak paneling at the coffee bar, and rojo alicante marble countertops. The burnt orange-hued interiors were designed by founder Joshua Zad's sister, a recent UT Austin grad who joined the Alfred design team. (The space is clearly repping the Texas university's signature color.)
As far as the menu, expect Alfred's usual lineup of favorites, including classic coffee drinks (hot and iced sips, cold brew, lattes, cappuccinos, and the like), breakfast burritos, fresh coconuts, and options like house-made syrup and milk alternatives including oat, almond, and coconut.
Zad tells us that he has history with Pac Pal: "My family developed two of the most prominent retail buildings in the Palisades in the late '80s. Additionally, I was a pizza delivery boy for an Italian restaurant across the street from Palisades Village. Needless to say, I have spent quite a bit of time over the years in the Palisades, so it is a place that is always near and dear to my heart!"
