Freeform's 'Cruel Summer' Is Turning Westfield Century City Into a '90s Roller Rink

The psychological thriller series takes over the L.A. shopping haunt on April 24 and 25.

Calling all '90s babies and anyone who picked up jam skating during lockdowns. This month's your chance to turn back the clock, strap on your wheels, and show off your salchow when Freeform series Cruel Summer takes over Westfield Century City for a two-day roller rink experience.

Open to ages 16 and up, the takeover is happening Saturday, April 24 from 12 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, April 25 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the outdoor shopping center's Atrium. There'll be 3,375 square feet of social distancing-friendly rink space, and DJ Daisy O'Dell and DJs Sky Sky and Memmi will be spinning the top tunes of 1993 to '95. Skate rentals will also be available. Of course, expect plenty of '90s-inspired photo ops as well as show merch and swag giveaways.

Executive-produced by Jessica Biel, Cruel Summer debuts Tuesday, April 20 at 9 p.m. PT on Freeform. Set over three summers during the '90s, the teen thriller follows aspiring cool girl Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia) and the popular Kate Wallis (Olivia Holt). When Kate goes missing, Jeanette takes over Kate's spot in high school society — but her downfall begins when some suspect her involvement in Kate's disappearance. Per Freeform, the show "explores how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America."

Ready to roll? Cruel Summer Roller Rink reservations are available at the event's website, and in-person walk-ins will be available on a limited basis. There'll be plenty of hand sanitizer stations and the space will be disinfected regularly. All guests must wear a face mask and there will be temperature checks at the entrance. See you on the rink!
