Plant parents, succulent surrogates, and cactus keepers: get ready! Peacock & Co, the Long Beach-based plant shop, is commemorating one year in their new space with a Covid-delayed grand opening celebration on Saturday, September 4. The event will be joined by Peacock & Co's favorite people and brands for a day of pop-ups, music, and drinks.

Expect to find LBC household names like urban farm @growing__ (who'll have a mini farmer's market set up), artist @splendid_circumstances, and embroiderer @ceremonychainstitch, among others. Local artist @karenn.corona will be playing her set to elevate the gathering into a real bash after a year of postponing and uncertainty for the shop; and expect rich-spirited, wealth-limited @richcudi to quench your thirst while there.

Founded by self-proclaimed musical dreamer and plant singer Stephanie Garcia Saharopulos in 2014, the shop rests behind Lord Windsor Coffee, across from The Ebell Club in Long Beach's Alamitos Beach neighborhood. Saharopulos prides herself on providing customers with a selection of hand-picked plants and home goods for the perfect balance of nature and design. LBC residents with a keen eye for beauty and simplicity can also find raw wooden stands and stools, dried palm fronds, modern pots, and stylish planters.

Saharopulos managed to keep the shop alive through the pandemic – a testament to its reputation in the community – along with her husband and "shop angel" @buttface_miscreant. One reason why it was able to brave the storm is because of Saharopulos' goal of creating a "space that inspires you to create your own plant sanctuary with a focus on design" – something she's executed immaculately in the year since operating at the current location. Curbside pick-ups, in-store appointments, masks, and a consistent online presence, along with an exceptionally well-curated selection, also helped.

Flora aficionados, be warned – the 800-square-foot space may cause the loss of hours out of your day given its natural lighting, crisp white walls, uncomplicated-yet-cozy layout, and an array of well-loved plants including favorites like fiddle-leaf figs and monstera deliciosas.
