Glendale-Born 'Posh Peanut' Pops Up at The Americana at Brand
Posh Peanut, the print-happy children's and parent's apparel brand, just celebrated the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of its first pop-up boutique at The Americana at Brand in Glendale. Returning to the city in which it was founded, the digitally native label is holding court across from Nordstrom – which also carries the brand – for a limited time through the end of 2021.
Posh Peanut opened its doors at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 29, inviting shoppers into a whimsical space designed by renowned L.A.-based creative designer Eddie Zaratsian. Posh Peanut's signature teal hue covers the walls while its colorful prints come to life through a life-size mobile adorned with dozens of miniature toys.
The pop-up carries limited-edition everyday wear for children ($12-$58) and women's swimwear collections in the brand's exclusive, vibrant prints ($58-$98). Purchases will also include Posh Peanut giveaways for kids.
"We are excited to be able to offer our first in-person pop-up giving a unique in-store shopping experience to our customers and community, in the city where I was born and raised," said Posh Peanut CEO Fiona Sahakian.
A wife, mother of two, and local hairstylist of 12 years, Fiona Sahakian first launched Posh Peanut online in her son's bedroom. She started with everyday children's wear made from a signature Päpook® viscose from bamboo. Moms and little ones alike love it because it's breathable, buttery, and not treated with chlorine-containing bleaches, zinc, or sulfate.
After a tremendous response online, Sahakian branched out to launch women's and men's loungewear and swimwear, matching family sets, plus accessories, backpacks, and lunchboxes for kids. Previously, the brand debuted a women's empowerment collection in collaboration with artist Martin Bruckner, which featured kids' zipper one-pieces in Malala Yousafzai and Rosa Parks prints, respectively. The brand donated the proceeds from this collection to Girls Inc LA. More recently, a Posh Peanut x Hello Kitty collab came to life via childrens' twirl skirt bodysuits and footie zippered one-pieces.
Today, Posh Peanut is carried at Saks Fifth Avenue and hundreds of children's boutiques throughout the West Coast. East coasters, be patient – the brand will be popping up there soon.
Uncover LA caught up with Sahakian about her new pop-up, her vision for the brand, and more.
What advice would you give yourself in 2011, before you founded Posh Peanut?
Nothing is impossible. Think bigger. You are only as big as your dreams.
What aspect of the pop-up are you most excited about and why?
We are so excited to branch out of the digital world and bring the experience of Posh to real life. Everyone will get to touch and feel our amazing Päpook from bamboo products first-hand. Our community drives our brand and we are ecstatic to meet everyone in person!
What was the inspiration for the pop-up's aesthetic?
We are known for our bold aesthetic and colorful designs. Our pop-up was inspired by all of our collections.
What's your favorite piece from the children's collection and the women's swimwear collection?
My favorite piece is our Lana pajamas. You can never go wrong with leopard. It's a staple every season. I'm also obsessed with our Queen of Hearts women's swimsuit because it's unexpected and fun!
How has your role as a mom shaped your vision for the future of Posh Peanut?
My kids have shaped the future of Posh with every product launch, new design, and new category. As my children have grown, they've helped me develop the future of Posh. We're not alone, however. The customers I've met along the way and the community of 800k+ moms have also shaped the future of Posh Peanut. I started Posh because I wanted cute clothes for my kids that weren't boring or made with muted colors, but were stylish and comfortable enough to put on my kids without worrying about them being stiff or scratchy. To that aim, our whimsical designs are apparent in every product and each piece is thoughtfully designed to spark the imagination!
