Did you know that L.A. greets an average of 50 million visitors every year? With that many newbies and tourists, it may be tricky to find the perfect hotel for your City of Angels staycation. The good news is WeHo just welcomed a new hotel fit for the Angeleno itching for a break from L.A. without actually leaving L.A. Part of a flip of the former Farmer's Daughter boutique hotel, Short Stories is the latest design-driven project from local entrepreneur Leo Grifka and L.A.-based Kevin Klein Design.
Cultured California-contemporary meets classic European in the intimate hotel's 66 modern guest rooms, outdoor pool, exclusive membership club, and restaurant. Expect to find terrazzo contrasted with stained woods and brass, and SoCal-styled landscaping by landscape architect Rolling Greens throughout. The property's breezy, L.A. aesthetic celebrates the culture and history of the surrounding area so you can feel like you're in an oasis in the middle of L.A.
In addition to the chic design touches (we think the pastel blue, S-shaped couch alone is worth a visit and photo opp), its central location is something to be appreciated, especially if you need to entertain out-of-town guests staying there. Short Stories is right across the street from The Grove and The Original Farmer's Market and is just a 10-minute stroll to the LACMA Museum District and West Third Street Shopping District.
Not looking for an overnight stay? Have an intimate, al fresco meal at the lodging's open-to-all Short Stories Restaurant – a collection of connected dining spaces including a cocktail bar, private dining spaces, and central courtyard lounge with enchanted garden vibes. The outdoor space is dotted with comforting Rhus Lancea trees and features a soothing water fountain that adds to the space's serene feel.
A take on California cuisine with Peruvian touches, the food and beverage program was curated by acclaimed Peruvian chef Ricardo Zarate. Zarate has helmed some of L.A.'s most-loved eateries, including Rosaliné (Jonathan Gold's "101 Best Restaurants" list, Thrillist's "Best New Restaurants in 2017") and now-closed Picca (GQ's "Best New Restaurant"). And in true L.A. style, there's no dress code so you can come as you are.
