Saarinen, Bertoia, van Der Rohe, and more are in the house, too.

Palm Springs may be the mecca of midcentury modern design, but Los Angeles is clearly a retail therapy playground for finding incredible interior decor and furnishings from the most respected names in the design world. On that note, iconic brand Knoll has débuted its first Home Design Shop in LA (and second-ever store), right in the heart of West Hollywood's design district.
The 4,000-square-foot boutique brings a slew of pieces to the U.S. for the first time ever, like Tobia Scarpa's Bastino lounge collection, Piero Lissoni's Grasshopper tables, and sofas by Avio. On top of offering classic furnishings and decor by Florence Knoll, Eero Saarinen, Ludwig Mies van Der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, and Marcel Breuer, the space also houses new collections from David Rockwell, Mark Krusin, and David Adjaye alongside a new range of fabrics and finishes for customizing pieces. Expect luxe options like rose gold and other metallics, rosso rubino and more marbles, cavallini hair hide leather, curly shearling, and many more high-end upholsteries; even the room dividers (from Knoll's Rockwell Unscripted collection) separating the store's stylish spaces are shoppable.
Of course, space's exterior and interior reflect Knoll's modern, architecturally-inspired approach; Yves Vidal's Tangier York Castle in Morocco serves as the inspiration for the store, which is organized "around a rich material palette reminiscent of Northern Italian architecture of the 1950s and '60s." Knoll design director brought on LA firm Johnston Marklee and Barbara Reimelt of NinetyNineGroup to help create the store, which boasts hand-polished gray terrazzo and white marble on its exterior and and herringbone oak flooring, brass accents, and gold-tone mirrors inside. Inspired by canopies at traditional Italian festivals and pavilions, the team outfitted the ceiling with draped felt panels to complement the track lighting and luxe finishes.
Knoll Home Design Shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 6pm; (310) 620-2680.
