Atelier Cologne's Chic Scents Are Popping Up on Melrose Place
Given the number of Paris-bred perfumers on Melrose Place (Frédéric Malle, The Harmonist, for starters), it's clear that the luxury retail stretch is a magnet for the City of Lights' chicest scents. On that note (get it?), the latest to land on the stylish block is Atelier Cologne, which is popping up through Sunday, December 30.
Located between Mansur Gavriel and Veronica Beard (and in France-born kids boutique Bon Bon's former space, no less), the French fragrance brand's Blue House is its first standalone retail endeavor in LA beyond the doors of Bloomingdale's, where its nature-inspired perfumes are currently stocked. The brand partnered with the department store for the sunny pop-up shop, which features colorful surfboards, glass jars filled with clementines, a very selfie-ready rainbow wall (yup, there's even a Bosco photobooth station), and indoor citrus trees that nod to founders Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel's SoCal influences.
Fragrance fiends can get a whiff of that Cali inspiration in Atelier Cologne's Golden State-inspired Joie de Vivre line (which includes citrus-infused scents like Clêmentine California, Orange Sanguine, Pacific Lime, and Pomélo Paradis, to just a name a few), which is available at the shop alongside the rest of its eau de colognes meant to be worn as perfumes, including its signature Absolue line and the "powerful, rare, and precious" Haute Couture line, among others. (As the New York Times explains, colognes only contain about 2 to 4 percent of perfume oils and are meant for freshening up, while eau de parfums contain 15 to 20 percent of oils and are intended to last all day.)
The French brand is also known for its personalizable leather cases, which are available in gift boxes and travel spray sets at the shop's holiday-ready Gift Workshop wall. Also on offer are Atelier Cologne's candles, soaps, lotions, and other bath and body products.
The temporary store marks Atelier Cologne's fifth brick-and-mortar space in the U.S.; the brand has two boutiques in New York, another two in San Francisco as well as outposts in Canada, France, and China.
