Francophile Vegans, Rejoice: Ladurée's Beverly Hills Eatery Is Going Animal-Free

The Parisian bakery teamed with plant-based L.A. chef Matthew Kenney.

Another win for animal-loving Angelenos and Francophile foodies. Starting today, fashionable French bakery and restaurant Ladurée is taking its Beverly Hills outpost's menu — including its colorful confections — entirely vegan with the help of L.A. plant-based chef Matthew Kenney.

The Paris-born patisserie — which also has locations at The Grove, Americana at Brand, Mansur Gavriel's boutique — enlisted the classically-trained chef and author revamp the 90210 restaurant's offerings. Oui, that means that the omelets are completely egg-free ($15 to $17), those fromage plates feature delish slices of you-won't-believe-it's-not-actually-cheese ($18), the finger sandwiches feature cashew cheese ($4 to $20), and the paté is made of mushrooms, to name just a few cruelty-free swaps. Of course, the brand's macarons are now also dairy-free, as are the rest of its fluffy pastries and viennoiseries alongside coffee and tea, cocktails, vino, and other drinks.

The culinary collaboration was born after Elisabeth Holder Ruberin, Ladurée U.S. co-president, reached out to Kenney via Instagram DM this past spring. She and brother/co-president David Holder are both mostly vegan and instantly connected with the classically-trained chef, who's also behind Plant Food + Wine and Folia, to name just a few.

Although Ladurée was founded in 1892 in Paris, the brand selected the City of Angels — rather than the City of Lights — as the launch pad for its vegan cuisine because "Los Angeles' people are already advanced" when it comes to being open-minded to plant-based food, the brand tells us. (Merci beaucoup, Ladurée!)

That's not all: The stylish sweets makers have also rolled out Super Macarons, a new line of superfood-powered treats that feature flavors like pomegranate chocolate, almond lucuma, green tea matcha with moringa, and baobab mango passion (Sorry, wellness-obsessed vegans, they're not dairy-free). They come boxed in a fully recyclable cocoa pod paper box made without glues or plastic.

As for the rest of the chic company's cafés, a selection of vegan macaron flavors, as well as the full line of superfood desserts, are now available at the other L.A. locations.
