Vintage fashion-loving beachgoers and stylish skater girls (and boys) have a charming new shopping stop in Santa Monica. Meet Lady Dandelion, a new boutique on stylish Montana Avenue that's stocked with print-happy clothing, accessories, and more finds fit for your next surf and sand session.
Founded by rad California skater mama, Grlswirl co-founder, and designer Danielle Schwartz, the 250-square-foot space is a Victorian dollhouse-meets-surf shack, complete with the original Art Deco copper paneling on the outside. "It definitely stands out and it's a couple of doors down from Caffe Luxe, my fave coffee shop. It's also nine blocks from the beach, which is great."
The whimsical store features Schwartz's own line of retro clothing, Lady Dandelion, inspired by her own "feminine tomboy" wardrobe. Think playful floral dresses, cartwheel shorts, and more sherbet-hued pieces that go from the boardwalk to the skateboard. "My slogan [is] 'for girls who like to get dirty but clean up real nice'; they are youthful, flirtatious, timeless. I call it season-less fashion because I don't stick to the traditional model where a whole new collection comes out every couple of months."
In addition to her label, the baby pink boutique also stocks womenswear by Barcelona-based Paloma Wool, ethically-made embroidered clothing by Tach, sunnies by L.A. eyewear designer Garrett Leight, and handmade jewelry fit for fashionable mermaids. Rounding out the seaside lifestyle-inspired offerings are coffee table books (like reprinted vintage tomes such as California Trip by Dennis Stock, Party in the Back by Tino Razo, and Do Angels Need Haircuts by Lou Reed) and candles by Wary Myers.
