Bellflower's bud lovers have scored a Hova-approved pot shop. Fresh off nabbing Jay-Z (né Shawn Carter) as its chief brand strategist, Bay Area-based cannabis startup Caliva has opened its first SoCal outpost in the Southeast L.A. nabe, where its retro concept dispensary, Deli by Caliva, debuted in late November of last year.

Inspired by old-school diners and delis, the nostalgic neighborhood store swaps soda jerks and pop for knowledgable budtenders and fresh and affordable pot. On offer are the brand's full Deli line of pre-rolls ($7 and up) and flowers ($50 and up per 1/4 oz.) alongside vaporizers, edibles, extracts, topicals, and more CBD- and THC products from licensed brands like Bad Apple, Fun Uncle, Mr. Moxey's Mints, Papa & Barkley, and others. Rounding out the offerings are pipes and other smoking accessories as well as clothing and other merch.

Shoppers can browse the goods on their own or take a number and grab a seat to get served by Deli's experts, while first-time customers, seniors, and veterans take 20% off their purchases. The shop also offers delivery within a 10-mile radius of Bellflower, and it'll offer online order for in-store pick-up soon.

Caliva was founded in 2015 and recently scored $75 million in its latest round of fundraising, and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana and former Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz joined as investors. The San Jose-based seed-to-sale company operates the largest indoor cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facilities in California, earning it over 35% of the legal cannabis market in the U.S.

In addition to donating to nonprofit programs such as Clear My Record, under the guidance of Jay-Z, the company will focus on supporting those who were formerly incarcerated "who are not seeing the monetary benefits of legalization through job training, advocacy, workforce development," according to Caliva.
