There's much more than meets the eye at this magical 1960s hotel in DTLA.

Elsewhere Madcap Motel Immersive Pop-Up

Immersive event aficionados can finally check into Elsewhere at the Madcap Motel, the magical (and now much-anticipated) experience that was slated to debut in DTLA last year. The company tells us that guests can explore the retro hotel starting Friday, April 30.

Dreamed up as a 1960s motel where there's much more than meets the eye, the 17,000-square-foot whimsical wonderland will house 19 rooms that will transport motel guests into alternative universes and out-of-this-world adventures. Expect to find 4-D installations, theatrical performances, magical entertainment, eye-popping oddities, and more mind-bending immersive experiences.

The fantastical and fictional story behind the Madcap Motel goes like this: Its proprietor, J.P. Sando, disappeared 30 (ahem, now 31) years ago following attempts to revive the run-down roadside destination. His family began receiving mysterious postcards that invited them to return to the decades-untouched hotel.

Ready to get away from reality? For now, the event will be open Thursdays through Sundays with hourly time slots from 2 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 for ages 12 and up, $30 for ages 11 and under, and free for kids ages 3 under; buy them online here.
