It's always beach season in Los Angeles, which is why most of us didn't raise an eyebrow when The Optimist Beach Club opened last October. Located at Culver City's Platform, the concept menswear boutique is a "sporty cousin" to the lifestyle retailer created by the stylish co-founders of the Westside shopping hub.

Designed as a living room filled with warm wooden furniture, whitewashed walls, plush linen couches, and an abundance of natural light, shoppers are immediately transported to a luxe beachside oasis. The Optimist Beach Club features hand-picked menswear brands from across the globe, celebrating an active lifestyle by the sea.

Expect to find swimwear and shorts by Onia and True Tribe ($104 to $250), tees and jackets from cult-fave labels like McTavish and Alex Crane ($35 to $210), home goods and beach essentials by OBC ($5 to $260), to name a few.

With brands such as Frescobol Carioca, Salt & Stone, and The Resort Co intricately displayed throughout the space, the shopping experience allows for customers to easily pick up a patterned swimsuit, a cotton button-down shirt, a pair of leather sandals, and natural sunscreen in one swoop.

This mixing and matching of goods within a curated setting comes from The Optimist's co-founders, David Fishbein and Joseph Miller, who came up with the concept after noticing an unfilled niche within the menswear industry. "We got to a point where we just couldn't find a menswear store in L.A. that we were excited about anymore," Fishbein told UncoverLA in 2019. That's also why the cool developer duo tapped formerly L.A.-based interior designer Jeremiah Brent to dream up their flagship store.

The Optimist Beach Club follows the lifestyle retailer's first pop-up at Larchmont Village, which debuted in March. That locale could turn into more than just a limited appearance, as David Fishbein recently told the Larchmont Buzz that he and Miller "hope at some point in the future that we can find a permanent home on Larchmont."
