Perfume-loving Eastside Angelenos, rejoice! You can now get your in-person Byredo fix without fighting 101 freeway traffic because the European luxury brand just opened a new Silver Lake boutique.
It marks Byredo's second Los Angeles location — its West Coast flagship on Melrose Avenue was its first – and follows the success of its pop-up shop at The Grove. Inside you'll find the Stockholm-based perfumery's much-loved fragrances as well as bodycare, home ware, and makeup.
"The space is multi-functional – of course it's a shop, but it's also a space to hang out. You will find all of our usual Byredo design cues in store – contrasting textures, pops of color, high ceilings, and our furniture," says Byredo founder and creative director Ben Gorham.
Sitting across the street from Pazzo Gelato and right next to Naturewell, Byredo's dog-friendly Silver Lake store echoes its founding principles while standing alone as a unique design concept that infuses elements inspired by its surroundings. Clean, textured slabs of lava stone on the exterior's facade make it fit right in with the neighborhood. And a large "BYR" in the brand's signature stencil logo is etched into the slabs for a graphic touch.
Italian terrazzo and aluminum in an array of finishes have been key design elements of the label's brick-and-mortars since it first started. In the Silver Lake store, these finishes are accented by steel wall panels and bubblegum pink lacquered mechanical tables, and are offset by bespoke pieces like a Moroccan hand-knotted carpet and a daybed custom-designed by Byredo.
Since Gorham founded Byredo in 2006, the brand has significantly expanded its global retail footprint and branched out beyond fragrances, selling leather goods, eyewear, candles, body care, and makeup. In addition to mastering the art of idiosyncratic olfactory gems, Byredo has a firm grasp on collabs that deserve your attention, frequently teaming with trailblazing artisans, designers, and brands.
Among them: a room diffuser with speaker technology made in partnership with Ojas founder Devon Turnbull; a vase collab with Copenhagen-based glass artisan Nina Nørgaard; a hand-crafted Valentine's Day gift collection with Toronto's Bentgablenits; a Leave In Conditioner with Ouai haircare; and upcycled garments with Stockholm fashion brand Our Legacy.
