Here's a perfect gift idea for dog lovers. This week, The Maybourne Beverly Hills is hosting a pop-up where Angelenos can get their pooch's portrait taken by celebrated British dog photographer Rhian Ap Gruffydd. During the one-hour appointment, Rhian, the founder of Gruff Pawtraits, will capture your pup's personality in her signature style. She'll then send you a professionally retouched print that's ready to be framed or included on your holiday greeting cards.
Portraits are priced at $295 per dog plus sales tax and include a 12'' x 12'' photograph, 10 postcards, and a custom bandana. A percentage will be donated to dog nonprofit Wags and Walks.
For the past twenty years, Rhian worked as a London-based portrait and reportage photographer for magazines and newspapers. While on a photoshoot one day, she used the model's dog as a stand-in to check her lights while the model was getting ready. That night while editing the shoot, she came across the image of the model's dog. "It was looking so intensely at me as if it was going to jump out of the picture and start talking!" Rhian says on her website.
After that, she started photographing people's dogs and putting them on cards as presents. Today she has a commercial range of 60 greeting cards of all different breeds.
The Gruff Pawtraits pop-up will be available for limited private appointments in a dedicated suite at The Maybourne Beverly Hills from Wednesday, November 2 to Sunday, November 6. Make a reservation here.
