How do you say "sneakerhead" in Swedish, especially in light of fashion's IKEA bag obsession? While we contemplate that translation, LA designer Chris Stamp — known for his avant-garde luxury label, Stampd — has perfectly combined Scandinavian minimalism with his signature luxe streetwear vibes in his SPÄNST collection for IKEA. The 22-piece range, geared towards footwear fiends and stylish skaters, lands at the home goods mecca's massive Burbank store from 6 to 8pm today ahead of next month's worldwide launch on May 1.
At last night's buzzing preview party (which took place at Stampd's La Brea flagship and studio), the designer officially unveiled his monochromatic collection ($4.99 to $249) of sleek black armchairs, gray pillow covers, mesh metal wardrobes, and standing desks, to name a few. Clearly dreamed up with interior design-obsessed sneakerheads mind, the line also included shoe boxes (available in clear, white, and anthracite), and skateboard/shoe racks ($69.99), and IKEA's first-ever skateboard ($89.99) alongside tees, hoodies, and hats ($6.99 to $24.99).
In a press release, Stamp explains that "as a fashion designer, I know that people want to show other people their clothes, shoes, and accessories. Why spend a lot on a pair of sneakers and hide them in a closet?" Hear, hear.
