The First-Ever Vegan Fashion Week Is Invading LA's Natural History Museum Next Month

There'll also be a marketplace in Downtown featuring all cruelty-free fashion, beauty, and food.

With luxury labels like Saint Laurent, Hermès, Rodarte, and Tom Ford staging shows in Los Angeles, the City of Angels' status as a fashion capital continues to rise — but we're still holding our breath until the many independent LA Fashion Week producers agree on a cohesive sched. However, one addition that animal-loving style seekers will undoubtedly welcome is Vegan Fashion Week, which is set to make its début in our very own city next month.

The four-day, cruelty-free event kicks off Friday, February 1 at the Natural History Museum, where it's joining the historic LA institution's Night of Ideas lineup. In addition to featuring a vegan fashion show, the soirée promises a thought-provoking talk by Nobel Peace Prize laureate and climate scientist Robert Lempert, science speed-dating, French film screenings, live DJs and musical performances, and even a sound bath with Jónsi of Icelandic ethereal rock group Sigur Rós and others, and more. (Heads up: NHMLA members get first dibs on free tickets; otherwise, sign up to get notified when more are released to the public here.)

Vegan Fashion Week's festivities continue through the weekend at the California Market Center in Downtown, where attendees can shop ethical designer clothing in the marketplace; explore a vegan lounge featuring fashion, beauty, and food from around the world; interact with installations and experiential exhibitions; and soak up intel from panel discussions.

The public happenings in DTLA take place Saturday, February 2 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., (there'll also be VIP-only runway show and after-party from 6 p.m. to midnight) and Sunday, February 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festivities will be capped off with a private fundraiser and awards ceremony Monday, February 4.

It's all the brainchild of Le French Lab creative director Emmanuelle Rienda, who previously brought some of France's coolest designers to LA and was behind last fall's Future of Fashion showcase powered by PETA and Fashion Revolution USA, among other local events.

Into it? General admission for the first #VFW is $20 and VIP entry (which includes free food and drinks, a gift bag, and a seat at the runway show) is $60. Tickets grant you access to Saturday and Sunday; buy them in advance online here.
