Long before The RealReal, Rent the Runway, Rebag, and essentially every wardrobe rental service (Bloomie's new My List, Nuuly, Stitch Fix, for starters) built their businesses by marketing eco-friendly high-end fashion borrowing, people like Dana Weinrot were already reselling luxury closet castoffs. She founded Celebrity Owned in 2004 as a way to make money off her own previously-loved merch on eBay and popped up at brick-and-mortar spaces around town, and now, her goods have found a permanent home in West L.A.
The "re-comm revolution" retailer's first permanent consignment shop is now open on Pico Boulevard at Barrington Avenue, right off that pesky 10/405 interchange (consider it your mid-traffic shopping pit stop). Expect to find womenswear, footwear, bags, jewelry, and accessories from luxury European and American fashion houses like Chanel, Christian Louboutin, Givenchy, Gucci, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Missoni, Saint Laurent, Valentino, and many others alongside cult-favorite labels like A.L.C., Iro, Isabel Marant, Rag & Bone, Rick Owens, and more.
"I started the business in 2004 selling a few items out of my closet and telling my friends I would help them as well if they had items to sell. Word spread quick that I was doing this as no one was really doing it 15 years ago," founder Dana Weinrot tells us. "It went viral very quickly. I had several legit clients with fabulous closets out the gate that helped me grow the business."
Though Weinrot has to remain tight-lipped about her sartorial sources, "I can assure you their items are not to be missed… If you have an event and need a fabulous new dress that you only plan to wear once, why pay retail when you can pay resale for like new and even new-with-tags items?"
The boutique will host events and pop-ins, too, including a fall collective market today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Swing by to shop clothing, accessories, decor, pet goods, and more from local artists, makers, and designers, such as edgy crystal jewelry by Sonya Monique, succulent arrangements by L8 Bloomers, skincare from Chiky Botanica and Sam's Soulutions, celestial fine jewelry by Love Around the Neck, chic gift boxes by Wonderland, and many others.
