Palisades Village Reopens with a Starry Concert, Jet Flyovers & More

Palisades Village is back in action.

The luxury shopping, dining, and entertainment center welcomed guests back on Saturday, Aug. 15, marking a milestone in the coastal community's healing process as rebuilding continues. The grand reopening bash kicked off with a heartfelt ribbon-cutting ceremony, a surprise jet flyover, and more. Locals enjoyed complimentary coffee, pretzels, popcorn, and other bites, while shoppers customized keychains and tote bags and stocked up on exclusive hats, tees and more merch showcasing their Pac Pal pride.

The day closed out with an evening concert featuring performances by Katharine McPhee and David Foster, Pia Toscano, the Hollywood Film Orchestra, the Palisades Charter High School Choir and other musicians. Anthony Hopkins (once the honorary mayor of Pac Pal), Kate Hudson, LA Lakers head coach JJ Redick, co-honorary mayors Ted McGinley and Gigi Rice, and others were among the nighttime celebration's starry guests; Billy and Janice Crystal (co-former honorary mayors) appeared on-screen to share words with the crowd.

The mall's festivities were a joint effort by fashion industry veteran and stylist Elyse Walker (whose eponymous designer boutique burned down last year), property owner Rick Caruso (who invested $100 million to repair the fire damage), and other Pacific Palisades community leaders.

Walker's namesake store became a fashion fixture in the upscale neighborhood when it first opened in 1999, long before Caruso's luxe lifestyle center arrived in 2018. Rebuilt from the ground up, the 7,860-square-foot space is now open at Palisades Village along with Walker's more casual Towne by Elysewalker retail concept. The main retailer offers luxe labels including Bottega Veneta, Chloe, Gucci, Jacquemus, Loewe, Miu Miu and Saint Laurent, while Towne offers a more laid-back, California-cool approach to designer dressing with tees, denim, button-downs and more. (The stores join Walker's other locations in Calabasas, Newport Beach, and New York.)

As for the rest of the luxe hub's stylish directory, those open include L.A.'s own Anine Bing, A.L.C., Buck Mason's menswear store (the women's shop will follow), Leset, fine jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, Misa Los Angeles, beauty retailer Violet Grey, denim label Paige, and sustainable line Reformation alongside tween-beloved Brandy Melville, fashionable fragrance houses Byredo and Diptyque, pricey sneaker brand Golden Goose, French labels Isabel Marant and Officine Générale, Veronica Beard (the designer known for her bestselling dickey blazers and trousers), and Australia's Zimmermann.

Stores on the way include luxe Italian label Brunello Cucinelli, Cult Gaia, eyewear brand Jacques Marie Mage, Mother's second L.A. boutique, cool-girl brands Staud and Toteme, NYC-based designer Trish Wescoat Pound's namesake brand TWP, and L.A.-based Xirena (pronounced "serena").

There's plenty for the taste buds, too. Palisades Village boasts offerings from James Beard award-winning chefs: Tim Hollingsworth's Alphabet Bar & Grill is now open, while Nancy Silverton's Italian steakhouse Spacca Tutto (a collaboration with hospitality group The H.wood Group) is also on the way. Alfred, Angelini Ristorante & Bar, Blue Ribbon Sushi (and its omakase experience, Ueki), K Bakery, gourmet ice creamery McConnell's, and Porta Via are now serving up food, coffee and bites; while rich hippie grocers Erewhon and sandwich spot Carla Cafe are coming soon.

The reopening comes nearly 18 months after the Palisades Fire killed 12 and destroyed more than 6,800 structures, including businesses and homes surrounding Palisades Village. The retail hub remained standing after the fires when Caruso hired a fleet of private firefighters to help protect the property and nearby homes, the New York Times reported. (Caruso is also behind L.A. shopping institutions The Grove and Americana at Brand, Rosewood Miramar Resort in Montecito, and many other retail, residential and commercial properties).

At the grand opening festivities, Walker noted how she and Elysewalker company president Summer Holl retained and paid staff while her flagship was rebuilt. "I could not be more proud to be standing up here today to celebrate, honor and commemorate the opening of Palisades Village. We're thrilled to bring our Elysewalker flagship and re-open Towne by Elysewalker to the Village as part of this new chapter," she said. "There was never any doubt that the Palisades would come back stronger than ever, and we hope that our enthusiasm and commitment will help heal and inspire more families to come back and rebuild."

Many of Palisades Village's tenants are offering exclusive merch to celebrate the reopening and support rebuilding efforts. At Paige, sales of a limited-edition Palisades Social Club tee and sweatshirt will benefit Steadfast LA, a non-profit organization led by Caruso that aids recovery efforts in Altadena, Malibu, and Pacific Palisades. Walker's shop features the Pali pullover sweater ($595), with 10% of proceeds going to local schools affected by the fire.

The outdoor hangout is hosting a full schedule of events and activities, including weekly farmers markets every Wednesday, Rummikub and Mahjong meetups, live weekend entertainment as part of the Swarthmore Sounds series, women's self-defense classes with Ludus, and more.
