Everlane wants Angelenos (and everyone, really) to walk with a more sustainable spring in their steps. Enter: Tread by Everlane, the transparent brand's soon-to-launch eco-friendly sneaker line that aims to last a lifetime while leaving zero carbon footprints — and L.A.'s eco-minded sneakerheads can see the kicks IRL at this month's concept pop-up shop in DTLA.
Following the footwear line's April 25 launch online and at Everlane's New York and San Francisco stores, Everlane is bringing its first Tread style, the Trainers, to L.A. from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, May 19 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily). Priced at $98, the carbon-neutral shoes will be available in seven colorways (off-white, glacier, gray, navy, butter, pale pink, and black) and in unisex sizes (5 to 12 for women and 7 to 13 for men).
It took Everlane two years to develop the shoes, and here's why: In addition to using less electricity and water to produce the leather upper, the sole is made of natural and recycled rubber (translation: that's 54% less greenhouse gas emissions and 94.2% free of virgin plastic), The laces and insoles are made of recycled plastic, too — meaning 18% less carbon is emitted.
At the 800-square-foot pop-up (which will be designed using recycled rubber, natural birchwood, and other sustainable materials), curious visitors will get a walkthrough of Tread by Everlane's earth-minded process by way of a textured floor installation made of repurposed materials and a wall display that will showcase the anatomy of the sneaker. Visitors can also earn carbon credit tokens when they check in, try on shoes, and more. (Even better? Everlane will donate $5 to NativeEnergy for every token you earn.)
A mobile sneaker cleaning station will also be in the house to guide shoppers on how to keep their steppers squeaky clean using natural products. There'll be a full lineup of community-focused events, like hands-on workshops, fireside chats, live concerts, free coffee and juice every day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and more.
