Paul Smith's Second L.A. Store Is Bringing Sharp Brit Style to Downtown Soon

But will be painted pink?

Broadway's shopping scene continues to buzz with new additions, from fashionable home furniture options to Scandi 2.0 style. And soon, Orpheum Loft dwellers in Downtown can easily give their wardrobes a colorful update when Paul Smith opens his second Los Angeles boutique at the Historic Core stretch. (But will it be painted Instagram-friendly pink?)

The British designer is taking over Optometric Eye Institute's former 1,345-square-foot space next door from the legendary Orpheum Theatre and across from Theory. In the L.A. installment of his "Postcards from" video series, Smith explains that "it's an exciting thing to be near a theater because there's always a lot of activity in the evening; [people] wait in line and that goes in front of the shop. It just creates a lot of energy."

In the video, the knighted designer also visits renowned artist Billy Shire and legendary rental shop Palace Costume & Prop, and reveals his kinship with the Golden State: "California is a scenario which is very laid back; very blessed with sunshine a lot of the year, which means often you'll find color," Smith explains. "People feel comfortable wearing color because they've got good sun tones."

Last year, Smith teamed with Shamrock Social Club founder and iconic L.A. tattoo artist Mark Mahoney.
