A visit to the drive-thru coffee shop, a road trip to Palm Springs, the daily grind to the office. Your carbon footprint might not be top of mind during any of these but how we choose to travel is becoming one of the most critical climate decisions we face. According to the EPA, a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. In 2019 alone, transportation – passengers cars, light-duty trucks, motorcycles, buses, and medium- and heavy-duty trucks – accounted for the largest portion (29%) of total U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Mercedes-Benz is giving Angelenos a taste of what it would feel like to reduce their carbon footprint in style. The luxury carmaker has launched a nationwide 20-city tour where you can test-drive its first all-electric luxury sedan, the 2022 EQS Sedan free for 30 minutes. Next stop: Los Angeles, at The Americana at Brand.

From Wednesday, January 26 through Saturday, January 29, Angelenos can experience first-hand the technology, design, and more of the EQS Sedans, which happen to be some of the world's most aerodynamic production vehicles available today. For comparison, the drag coefficient – the dimensionless quantity used to quantify the drag or resistance of an object in a fluid environment, such as air or water – of the Tesla Model S is 0.208 while the EQS Sedan's is 0.20.

For those who can't get enough of that new car smell, let's get into the EQS Sedan's interior. Simply put, it feels like a lavish spaceship. The Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) Hyperscreen – a 56" curved glass instrument panel that stretches from door to door – connects three screens, conjuring up the feel of a flying car's interior.

If blaring music is your thing, you'll appreciate the fact that, unlike gasoline-powered engines, the EQS Sedan has its own soundscape, keeping the cabin as quiet as we like our yoga studio during savasana. But our personal favorite aspect of the car's interior? There are no small cracks and crevices to clean (fries crumbs, bobby pins, and quarters, begone).

A product specialist who will serve as a right seat passenger will accompany drivers during the test drive experience at the Americana. Guests also will have access to the Mobile Experience Center, a hub where they can experience the features and design elements that set the Mercedes-EQ lineup apart. The first models within the Mercedes-EQ family of vehicles Mercedes have introduced to the US market include the EQS 450+ and the EQS 580 4Matic.

Mercedes' EQS debut marks a milestone in the carmaker's sustainability efforts. In December 2020, its parent company Daimler AG pledged to make Mercedes' entire passenger car fleet carbon-neutral within two decades as part of its Ambition 2039 initiative.

Sessions can be scheduled for Wednesday, January 26 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, January 27 and Friday, January 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, January 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Click here to view the remaining test drive city tour schedule and register for a slot. Mercedes will accommodate Angelenos who didn't pre-register on a first-come, first-serve basis.
